Located at the Lavington curve mall, Mambo Italia is a pizzeria that has truly never disappointed me in the many years it’s been in existence.

It’s located on the top floor and has both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the once serene but now very crowded Lavington streets. I like that they have a vast open playground where your little ones can play to their heart’s content.

The menu is very pizza focused but they also have a good variety of other Italian and continental dishes. I sometimes try the pasta here but usually you’ll always find me having my usual and my fave - the Zanzibari pizza (KSH1850).

I came here for lunch with a friend and she decided to try their spaghetti & meatballs (KSH1500) and we split some garlic butter ciabatta with mozzarella as a starter (KSH550).

That ciabatta with mozzarella was fresh out of the oven! Still so warm, the cheese was still melting perfectly - added some olive oil and fresh chillies on top and gobbled it up quick! So yum!

As for the pasta - it was a bit of a hit or miss. The meatballs were great but the spaghetti itself was a bit too al dente - it was sent back to the kitchen for a redo but my friend said it still tasted too chewy for her liking. Luckily the pizza was big enough for us to share so she still enjoyed a filling meal.

Now let’s talk about this Zanzibari pizza. It’s named that because of the tasty Zanzibari chutney they use as a base. And I think that’s what I love about it the most - it’s tangy but also fruity so it adds in a bit of sweetness to balance out the spice and flavour of the meats on it.

There was a time I would visit Mambo Italia every week just to have this pizza, love it so much! I’ve tried their pasta a few times and some of the other pizzas as well and their food quality is top. I hear their tiramisu is amazing but I haven’t tried it yet.

The service that day was a bit slow but I’m hoping that was just a one time thing. The ambience here is great, especially on the weekend if you’re looking for a chill date plan or a nice spacious place to host an event like a more casual birthday lunch or dinner. Perfect place to bring the family for Sunday lunch especially if you have young kids.
