Stories coffee is a coffee shop located along Muthangari drive in Lavington. Originally from Beirut, Stories serves signature coffees and rich Lebanese dishes.

I came here for lunch with a friend a while back and I think it was just about two weeks after they opened because it looked like they were still in the setting up phase on the outside. On the inside through - it’s quite a vast and yet cozy cafe. their branding is very ‘Starbucks-esque’ which is smart because that’s how people remember you.

The menu has a wide variety of options, you can do breakfast, lunch and dinner plus a snack in between if you want. It’s a very expansive menu. I was told they roast their own coffee and that’s what piqued my interest the most being a coffee lover.

We ordered a latte (KSH500), cappuccino (KSH500), dynamite shrimp (KSH1700), and a halloumi sandwich (KSH1400). First of all… a small latte being 500 bob is very much a recession indicator because what the helly?? Was it worth the 500/ - not as much in my honest opinion.

They gave us some complimentary pita bread and hummus - this was really yum! I asked for more immediately, despite knowing it would ruin my appetite lol. I love fresh bread in any form 😋

The dynamite shrimp looked very enticing from what I saw on socials. Unfortunately it did not translate in person - the shrimp were heavily fried in a breadcrumb batter that I feel was too thick. It felt like I was eating more batter than shrimp and there was nothing ‘dynamite’ about the sauce - not spicy at all. I ordered some fries with this and the fries were also not great.

The halloumi sandwich was a good save though because it was great! The portion was good, the bread was nice & soft, the mix of grilled halloumi, rocket leaves, caramelized onions, walnuts, black olives (and I don’t even like olives like that) on a bed of zesty pesto made for a wonderful burst of flavours in my mouth! I highly recommend this sandwich.

The staff were nice enough to give us some complimentary frozen yogurt which is one of their most popular products - we tried the lotus and blueberry flavours. They’re both very rich flavours and delicious! However, I feel like if I had a full cup I wouldn’t be able to finish it (odd for a sweet tooth like me I know) - I’m just not into froyo like that.

The staff here were friendly and very hospitable. I can see myself coming back here for coffee dates or to work from or a nice breakie/lunch plan. I think I need to try more stuff from their menu before I write off the food but so far - it’s just okay.

Since they’re new, let’s give them time and see how they fare in the market in about a year’s time.
