The Wine Shop
The wine shop is a premier wine bar and restaurant located on Loresho ridge. It’s quite a drive to get there if you don’t already live in the suburbs but definitely worth it for a sunny afternoon of food, wine and good vibes. There is very limited parking here so if you can cab, that would be better and the restaurant itself is not massive so to avoid any disappointments, make reservations in advance.
The wine shop has both indoor and outdoor seating. The outside seating is better in my opinion because you’re surrounded with so much greenery and lush flower bushes and of course you can’t beat the fresh air and basking in the sun. I’m sure it looks even better from dusk into evening as the sun sets.
I came here for lunch with my good friend who loves a good glass of vino. The menu is vast and has options from cold cuts and cheese boards to pasta and burgers, quite a good variety to choose from.
For starters we had the popcorn chicken (KSH950) and for mains, I had the cheeseburger (KSH1500). My friend tried two different wines, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Pinotage - she liked the Pinotage better. The popcorn chicken was delish, nice and spicy and served in plenty! Great portioning for a starter but could also fill you up and not allow room for another meal so eat them slowly…
The cheeseburger was a classic perfect burger. Zero critique, zero notes. I love when a simple burger not only looks good but tastes amazing as well. I judge a lot of restaurants by how they make their burgers and if you can’t get a simple hamburger right… tells me a lot about the rest of the menu so the wine shop clearly know their stuff.
The staff here were very attentive and the service was great. This was a Saturday afternoon so it wasn’t super busy but it started filling up as we were about to leave. I think they get busier in the early evening to night time.
I think it’s a great place to come for a sunny day out with your girlfriends for a nice lunch/early dinner, though the tables on the upper terrace are a bit too close for comfort so you can’t gossip fully. The lower section would do better for that for all my fellow muchene lovers.
Also a perfect place for a date, it has a nice intimate vibe and ambience if you’re trying to impress a special someone. Not a wine drinker myself so I can’t speak on their collection but from what I hear people tend to like their wines a lot.
Looking forward to coming back to try the rest of their menu soon!
