Kalamata
Kalamata (named after the Greek Kalamata olive) is one of Nairobi’s go-to spots for alfresco dining. It’s located in Lavington and is also another well outfitted establishment. They have both indoor and outdoor sitting with pockets of cozy corners for a casual setting and more intimate table settings indoors for a more formal vibe.
Their menu is summarized into two sheets, one for food and the other for drinks (I hope other restaurants are taking notes, we don’t need to be reading entire booklets as a menu please).
Mythos Taverna
This new bombshell in the restaurant scene has been turning heads with every pic posted and every reel shared. Mythos is located at Mwanzi Market, Westlands and lemme just say… I haven’t seen a restaurant that aesthetically pleasing in quite some time.
Now I have never been to Greece (but soon come IJN) but I’ve seen a lot of pictures of Greece and their interior designer hit the nail on the head with the whole Grecian concept.
Mysa: Wine & Dine
This place was a surprising find as I thought I was heading to Mythos - the Greek restaurant, only to find out that it was actually Mysa (confused the names lol). Located in the Gigiri lifestyle courtyard, Mysa doesn’t come across as a fine dining restaurant at first glance but once you sit down and get a feel of the place and the menu… you can tell it’s not just a casual setup.
Tokyo
Tokyo is a Japanese restaurant located in the Lavington area. It’s such a nice spacious place with both indoor and outdoor seating surrounded by lush greenery. Came here for dinner on a weekday so it wasn’t super packed which is usually what I prefer. I found it odd that they had so many signs up about their last order times, like around each corner of the restaurant You can never say you didn’t know that they take their last orders at 9pm and close at 10pm lol.
Five Senses
This fine dining restaurant is located at Galana plaza in the heart of Kilimani. It’s a French cuisine restaurant with an additional African flare to all their dishes. A hostess meets you at the door when you enter to direct you to your table. I found the place quite inviting - warm lighting, ambient music and well spaced seating so it doesn’t look too cramped.
For a fine dining restaurant though, I felt like their decor and furniture was quite dated, giving it a more aged feel as opposed to luxury… I think they need to spruce it up a bit to match their brand and their prices.
