Slate Kitchen & Bar
Upon getting here, the service was the first thing I noted. There are parking attendants at every point of the parking lot to direct you (it’s kind of confusing finding the entrance so I appreciated the assistance). The hostesses are welcoming and reservations are very necessary - the place gets full quick on Fridays and weekends.
The outfitting of this place my goodness! I love good interior decor & these guys have taken such detail in everything from the furniture to lighting, spacing, wallpaper, wallpaper texture… even the window sheers that make the space feel more intimate than it would had the windows been bare… this may not matter to most but I really love a place that not only looks great, but feels great too.
Meso Izakaya
Meso is a fine dining Japanese restaurant located in the Westgate Mall, Westlands. Reservations are not needed but if you’re going as a group-that would be recommended. Prices are on the higher side as well so plan accordingly.
For starters we had popcorn shrimp tempura and pork gyoza. The shrimp was so good! It comes with a chilli mayo which I believe is the best condiment for that dish because I couldn’t stop eating it - or maybe it was my hunger lol, either way - a great choice.
Shokupan
Shokupan is a cute little Japanese bakery in Sarit centre that I’ve been wanting to try. The menu was overwhelming because it’s quite long but everything looked so good! I tried a little bit of everything. I had the black sesame latte, the tiramisu pancakes, some mushroom & tofu gyoza, firecracker cauliflower bao buns & a strawberry shortcake.
I loved everything. My favourites were the pancakes and the bao buns & that cake!
Fonda Taqueria
A Mexican restaurant after my own heart! Fonda used to be located at the Rosslyn Riviera Mall and I really loved that location because of how much space it had. Luckily they didn’t close down completely and just moved to the rooftop food court at Sarit centre.
They’ve kept the decor very similar, bright colours, stained glass, nice little Mexican elements and they have enough seating both outside and inside the restaurant.
Burger Hut
If this isn’t a blast from the past I don’t know what is😄 Did you guys ever go to Burger Hut back in the day?? Did you also know that Burger Hut has been in business since 1986?? This was a staple Sunday lunch joint in my childhood and then it disappeared from my life for a while until my 20s and since then, it’s always been one of my go to places for simple yet juicy burgers.
Bao Box
I finally got to check out the newly redone Bao Box after what seems like very many years since I was last at the original Bao Box. It’s located on General Mathenge Drive in quite an expansive compound. The entrance is a nice little arch pathway covered in lights leading you into the reception area where you’re welcomed by the hostess and a nice neon sign blazing the words ‘welcome to the jungle’… okay theme!
